Getting Started
What is Lexi?
Lexi is an AI legal research platform built for Australian law. It answers Australian legal questions with case law and legislation analysis, cites in AGLC4 form, and links back to the primary source so the citation can be checked. It also provides drafting, study and practice-management tools, and a specialist tool for each legal task. It is a research aid, not a substitute for legal advice.
What Lexi doesHow do I sign up?
Sign up with an email address and password, then confirm the verification email. No card is needed to use the free tier. Research questions and tool pages are readable before you create an account at all.
Sign upIs there a free trial?
There is a free tier rather than a time-limited trial. It includes a lifetime allowance of 3 research questions, and the tool pages can be opened without an account. Paid plans are a subscription and can be cancelled at any time.
See the free tier and plansWhich plan should I choose?
There are three paid plans, all in Australian dollars: Student at $8 a month — for law students; Professional at $28 a month — for practising lawyers and researchers; Ultra at $88 a month — for the heaviest research workloads. Student is the right choice for coursework and exam preparation. Professional adds the practice-management and drafting tools a working lawyer needs. Ultra adds the deepest research mode and the largest document allowances. Each plan's exact inclusions are listed on the pricing page, and you can change plan at any time.

How does Lexi's research work?
Ask a question in plain English and Lexi searches Australian case law and legislation, analyses the relevant principles, and writes an answer with AGLC4 citations that link to the source. Where the judgment is held in Lexi's corpus with verifiable paragraph numbering, the answer cites a paragraph rather than the case as a whole, so the pinpoint can be opened and checked. Where a paragraph cannot be verified, it cites the case without one instead of inventing a reference.
Start a research questionWhat AI-powered tools are available?
Lexi provides a specialist tool per legal task, each free to open. They include a costs estimator, case note generator, appeal grounds analyser, plain English translator, moot coach, strategy memo generator, cross-examination builder, witness preparation, contract clause analyser, compliance checker, document automator, issue triage and case map. The full list, with what each one takes as input and returns, is on the tools page.
Browse the toolsHow accurate is Lexi's research?
Lexi publishes measurements rather than a single accuracy figure: a fixed set of Australian legal questions is sent to the live product and scored for AGLC4 citation format, pinpoint references, and whether the expected authorities appear. The current run, its methodology and its limits are published in full on the citation scorecard. The harness does not measure whether the legal reasoning is correct, so a score is not a warranty, and every citation should be checked against the primary source before it is relied on.
Read the citation scorecardAre citations AGLC4 compliant?
Citations are formatted to AGLC4, the citation standard used in Australian law schools and practice, for cases, legislation and secondary sources. Formatting is not the same as correctness: quote and pinpoint accuracy still need checking against the primary source, which is why each citation links to it. Lexi does not claim to replace the judgment of the person filing the document.
Which jurisdictions does Lexi cover?
All Australian jurisdictions: the Commonwealth, New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. Coverage is deepest for Commonwealth legislation and for High Court judgments, and relies on the Commonwealth statute register for federal provisions.
For Law Students
How can Lexi help with exam preparation?
Lexi generates practice questions on a topic you nominate, gives structured feedback on your written answer, and identifies the issues you missed. It also has an IRAC essay generator, case note templates, flashcards, a study calendar and a weakness analysis across the topics you have attempted. The feedback is a study aid: it will tell you where an answer is thin, not what mark it would receive.
Can I generate case notes with Lexi?
Lexi generates a structured case note from a case name and citation, with sections for facts, issues, reasoning, holding and critical analysis. Where the judgment is in Lexi's corpus the note is grounded in the judgment text rather than in a summary of it, so the reasoning section can be checked against the source.
Open the case note generatorWhat documents can I generate?
Lexi can draft case notes and summaries, IRAC essays, statutory declarations, letters of demand, non-disclosure agreements and deeds of agreement, among other document types. Drafts export to DOCX so they can be edited and submitted in the format your institution requires. Every draft is a starting point and should be read before it is used.

What practice management features are available?
Lexi includes matter management, client records, time tracking, invoice generation, deadline management and a document workshop with version control. Matters link to their documents, time entries and invoices, so a matter's history is one view rather than a reconstruction from separate systems.
What is Deep Research mode?
Deep Research runs a longer, multi-step research process than the standard answer: it considers more sources, tests counter-arguments, and returns a longer analysis. It is available on the Professional and Ultra plans, and Ultra adds quantified risk assessment to the output. The extra depth is more analysis, not a higher guarantee of accuracy — citations still need checking.
How does the Document Workshop work?
The Document Workshop creates, edits and versions legal documents, and links each one to a matter. You can draft from a template or from scratch, edit with AI assistance, keep every version, check a document against the others in the same matter, and export to DOCX.
Technical Questions
Which browsers are supported?
Lexi runs in any current browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge are all supported. It needs JavaScript enabled. An out-of-date browser is the most common cause of a layout or upload problem, so update first if something looks wrong.
Is there a mobile app?
There is no separate app in the App Store or Google Play. The web app works in a mobile browser and can be installed to your home screen, where it behaves like an app and keeps working offline for pages you have already opened.
How secure is my data?
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is controlled by row-level security so an account can only reach its own records, and authentication is handled by Supabase with optional multi-factor authentication. Lexi does not use customer documents to train models. This is encryption in transit and at rest, not end-to-end encryption: the service processes your text in order to analyse it, which end-to-end encryption would make impossible. The security page sets out exactly what is and is not sent to model providers.
How Lexi handles your dataCan I export my data?
You can export research answers and workshop documents as DOCX, invoices as PDF or DOCX, and study and exam reports as a download. Nothing is held hostage in the product: your documents remain available to export for as long as the account exists.
Billing & Support
What payment methods are accepted?
Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit and debit cards, processed by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe and are never stored by Lexi. Prices are in Australian dollars; the terms of service set out how GST is applied to a payment.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
You can cancel from your account settings at any time, and the subscription stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. There is no cancellation fee and no notice period.
Do you offer refunds?
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on a first subscription. If Lexi has not been useful within the first 30 days, contact support and we will refund that payment. The guarantee does not cover renewals, and it does not limit any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
Read the refund policyHow do I get support?
Email hello@lexiapp.au or use the contact form, and a person replies. Include the question you asked and roughly when, if the problem is with a research answer, because that is enough to find the run and read what happened.
